Ok, so the second album is very different to the first. Tell us here what you think.

Yeah I know, I'm over posting but I've been dying to talk about this bunch for ages and am sure other people willl join in soon, well once the bleeding owner gets a move on and promotes the site This is a review of DYBTB from - again - the BBC. If your new to TVOTR you get to hear a couple of tracks too: www.bbc.co.uk/dna/collective/A2692479

I've got the impression that the album got a rather lukewarm media response. There could be a number of reasons for that.
One of them is that, while the marvelous "Young Liars" EP (which would require a new thread here) was musically more compact, more one-directional, on "Desperate Youth, ...", TVOTR were literally exploding, taking their sound and composition in all sorts of different directions at a time. This must have created some confusion.
The other reason might be the usual media reactions - after "Young Liars", "Desperate Youth,..." doesn't have the novely factor, and some critical backlash is inevitable.
My opinion? We were all wrong in assuming that "Young Liars" was a summary of TVOTR's sound, and their musical and aesthetic concerns. "Desperate Youth, ..." just flies, way beyond anyone's expectations. And this is even easier to see in the wake of the second LP.

The first time I listened I was disapointed. Seemed bland and repetitive. But when I came back to it it grew on me quite a bit. It is def a grower and is worth a listen. However, I believe Cookie Mountain was a big improvement.

Some songs to me are amazing while others seem repetitious on another note they played Wear You Out live in Lancaster PA and it was the highlight of the night for me.
